THE STORY - My name is Emmanuelle, and I was born at the dawn of the 90s. In my childhood books, little girls sometimes had bad encounters. A threatening figure would emerge from a dark alley. He always wore a hat and a beige raincoat. So how could I have been wary when a family friend invited me to dance, all smiles, one wedding evening?
This is the starting point of a story that is not particularly sordid but sadly commonplace.
Imperméable is an investigation, the narrative of a coming-to-awareness, a desire to break the silence. I reflect on the influence of my upbringing, popular culture, and society in the denial of the twenty years that followed my assault. So I started from the beginning. The event of "the assault" serves as the central point of the narrative, which recurs constantly, with back-and-forths between the past and the present. Using photos, anecdotes, and texts from feminist thinkers, I retrace the path that led me to that evening in June 2002.
The writing of Imperméable was born from a double necessity. The first is very personal and therapeutic, akin to what is called in psychoanalysis "a process of sublimation." The second is a desire for transmission.
The performance will serve as a tool for questioning the injunction to coupledom and heterosexuality, as well as the culture of rape. It is a fact: the voice has been liberated; now it is about knowing how to receive it and what to do with it, to evolve together towards a different future. By entering these feminist themes through the lens of an intimate and non-fictional narrative, I hope to create a space for simple and sincere reflection.
